Boilers are essential home appliances which are used for heating and supplying of hot water for home needs. When we consider the service of boilers, generally we are not bothered about them; the only time we get the boilers serviced is when they break down. These are run on daily basis and their workload can vary from one day to another. It is always good and sensible to get the system serviced at a regular time interval this will avoid in unnecessary faults and expenditure and in some cases changing the complete unit for a new one.
Right time for boiler service
A boiler needs to be gas engineer serviced periodically which is yearly once or as per the manufacturer’s directions. Usually during the service, the system is opened up and cleaned and put back as it was before. There are different parts in a boiler which provide the heating and hot water and it is essential that a full service is performed. Usually the equipments get serviced at the summer ends because of the fine weather the boilers are used much less, this causes the interiors of the boilers to clog and seize because of the inactivity and non usage of the boilers. A service done at this time would ensure that the boiler is ready for the winter season.
Apart from these, they are also serviced when they are any malfunctions like when they create much noise and not providing sufficient heat. In such cases though a full unit service is performed the areas which require particular attention is addressed first and the problem is sorted.
Boiler Service signs
Usually these equipments start to show some early warning signs that it requires a service. We shall discuss some of the common signs which are as follows. An irregular or a yellow colored boiler flame, the flow of hot water is limited or the water is not as hot as it is supposed to be, stains or smoke marks which appear on the appliance near by the boiler, frequent boiler refilling or overheating, loud noise created by the fan of the boiler, the light turns off in repeatedly and pressure drops. These are some of the signs that the system shows if its service time has come.
Boiler service cost
The usual charge for servicing a standard unit will cost around £50-£80 and if the consumer has a high efficiency boiler the service rates can go higher from £150 upwards. The other factor which will affect the price of servicing is the location of them from the service companies. It is always wise to choose the service company which has good reputation and the one which is near the home.
It should be noted that carbon monoxide which is an odorless and tasteless gas may sometimes leak from the boilers. It is very harmful and very dangerous, however a small leakage of this gas will not cause fatalities, but exposure to this gas for a prolonged period might cause brain damage. A regular and proper service to the boilers will check any such leakage and prevent them.
